Helski Consultants - Greece
When you think of Greece you may see beaches and ancient history, but the guides at Heliski Consultants are turning Greece’s mountains into one of Europe’s best heliski destinations.
For example, you’ve likely heard of Mt. Olympus, but did you know that this operator will fly you to the top of Olympus, so you can ski down? That’s right, the very same pilot you saw in that clip, Craig Colonica, is a member of the Heliski Consultants team that has made it possible to heliski in Greece.
Heli Ski Consultants: Greece - Facts & FAQ
It’s true that Greece has a warm climate and plenty of beaches to enjoy its sunshine in, but north of all the beaches are the Pindus Mountains where steep peaks rise above small Grecian towns and are pounded by snow during the winter. In fact, Greece’s location in the Mediterranean means that there is plenty of moisture in the air, and when you head up the mountains it turns to snow without dipping into bitterly cold temperatures.
The Heliski Adventures team has been guiding since 2001 and have guided all over the world, including in Chile, Nepal, and Europe. However, the Heliski Adventures guides decided that if they wanted to offer a truly unique experience then they needed to heliski in Greece, and they’ve been perfecting their craft ever since.
While the Pindus are where the Heliski Consultants team has most of their territory, they also fly guests up Mt. Olympus and guide them down some of the most memorable ski runs in their lives. A trip to Mt. Olympus doesn’t just mean going to the summit once and then heading home either, as the Mt. Olympus area has over 50 summits and plenty of snow for skiing and snowboarding down them.
A trip to Greece begins with a flight into an international airport, and if it’s your first visit to the country then flying into Athens and seeing the capital is a great way to start your adventure. If you want to ski the Pindus, then you’ll need to travel north to Trikala where you’ll check into the beautiful Ananti Resort. If you choose Mt. Olympus, then you’ll fly into Thessaloniki where the Heliski Consultants guides will arrange transportation to Plaka and The Litohoro Olympus Resort and Spa you’ll stay in while there.
Heliskiing Greece packages include 1 to 4 days of skiing in mixed or private groups of either 4 or 8 people, accommodations at a resort, and three meals a day while in the field. You can also book weeklong packages that include the same.
If the weather does not allow for heliskiing, then the Pindus and Mt. Olympus regions are located near small towns that make for great off day adventures as well as après destinations with bars and restaurants. Or, you can head back to your resort after a day of heliskiing and relax at the bar or spa there. Travelling daily between snowy mountains and Mediterranean beaches may sound impossible, but that’s exactly what you can do when you heliski in Greece!
