Powderbird Heliski

Heli SkiingThere is no doubt about it! Powderbird Heliski is the top dog when it comes to heliskiing operations in Utah. This experienced company was one of the first operators in the country, and to this day continues a lineage of high-quality skiing, extreme descents, and top-notch accommodations.

The Utah region is world-renowned for its impeccable snowfall, and this is exactly what you’ll have the opportunity to experience with this operator. With multiple package options available including single days, private, and multi-day excursions, you can completely customize your trip. The icing on the cake is world-class lodging in either Park City or Snowbird Resort, giving you access to countless amenities and après activities.

Powderbird Heliski: Facts & FAQ

History of Powderbird Heli Skiing

Originally opening its doors in 1973, Powderbird Heliski has a long history in the industry. While not the first operator in North America, they were certainly present at the onset. This experience establishes them as a knowledgeable, safe, and fun operator that is dedicated to facilitating life-changing trips.

In 2002, Powderbird Heli Skiing Utah expanded internationally. If you’re looking to take your adventures even further, this operator provides trips to Greenland and Argentina in South America. They also host yacht-based heliskiing trips for truly extravagant skiers.

Today, Powderbird prioritizes skiing every single day. Even if there’s a down day due to weather and the helicopters can’t fly, they’ll provide you with additional skiing opportunities like cat skiing and side door Tram access at Snowbird Resort.

Getting to Powderbird Heliski

Easily one of the most accessible heliskiing operations in the world, Powderbird Heliski is right at everyone’s doorstep. Located just 45 minutes away from Salt Lake City International Airport, both domestic and international travelers will have zero difficulties getting here.

Nearly every major airport in the United States provides a direct flight here, and many countries do as well. If you’re coming from London, France, or Tokyo, you’ll have the opportunity to arrive without any layovers or transfers.

Once you’ve touched down, you’ll want to rent a car to get to your accommodations. With Powderbird Heliski, you’ll have the option of staying directly in Park City, or in Little Cottonwood Canyon. From there, direct helipad access is provided. There are also plenty of shuttle options from the airport to all Cottonwood Canyon ski resorts.  If you’re booking a multi-day package with accommodations included, transportation to and from the airport is provided.

Accommodations and Amenities

Powderbird Heliskiing provides single-day and multi-day package options at their partnered locations. If booking a single-day package, you’re free to find accommodations anywhere you like. Salt Lake City is an affordable option, but for more direct access it’s recommended to find somewhere to stay in downtown Park City.

If booking a multi-day package, you’ll be staying at Snowbird’s Cliff Lodge. With this lodging, you receive a convenient and flexible option that makes booking your heliskiing trip easy. Most Powderbird heli skiing reviews suggest staying here for the world-class service and amenities they offer. You’ll be able to enjoy:

  • Standard bedrooms, upgrade king rooms, or one-bedroom suites
  • Breakfast and après ski lunch included at the helipad
  • Choice of helicopter skiing package
  • Complimentary access to Powderbird’s ski demo fleet
  • Transportation to and from the airport
  • Access to the Cliff Spa with pools, hot tubs, fitness classes, and saunas

Snowbird also has a variety of restaurants to enjoy. Some skier favorites include The Atrium for casual dining, and The Aerie for fine dining.

Terrain and Difficulty Levels

When it comes to terrain, Powderbird Heli Skiing does not mess around. They fly in the largest commercially permitted area in Utah. Their expansive tenure is spread across the Wasatch and Uinta Mountain ranges, renowned for their ample snowfall. These mountains regularly experience 500+ inches of powder every single year, all of it incredibly light and fluffy. The cold lake effect snow that Utah experiences is commonly referred to as “champagne powder” and is some of the most enjoyable snow you could ever ski through.

Overall, Powderbird has more terrain available to skiers than all Utah ski resorts combined. Additionally, they have a massive selection of terrain to choose from. Intermediate powder skiers will enjoy moderately pitched alpine bowls and wide-open glades. Expert skiers will be just as thrilled with advanced terrain that’s found throughout their two mountain ranges. Steep, tight chutes and narrow ridges are commonplace.

Packages Offered by Powderbird Heliski

Powderbird offers the quintessential North American heliskiing experience. They highly recommend their multi-day package options for the cost savings benefit they provide, but single-day trips are also available. All tours feature a small guide-to-group ratio and take place in the classic A-Star helicopter.

Your package options include:

  • Single Day: Just in Utah for a short while or planning on spending most of your time at the local resorts? The single-day trip would be perfect. You’ll be partnered with 7 other skiers of similar ability levels and led by 2 accomplished guides. 6 runs are provided, with additional runs available for an extra $200 each.
  • Semi-Private: If you’d rather experience private helicopter access with only a few other skiers, this is the package for you. It features 6-10 runs in a day and 1 hour of flight time, guaranteed.
  • Private: The private package offered by Powderbird Heliski offers 6-15 runs depending on group speed, and 2 hours of flight time. You’ll have entirely private access with you and your friends.

Multi-Day: Pair comfortable accommodations at Snowbird’s Cliff Lodge with 3, 4, or 7-day heliskiing packages.

Consult operator directly for current packages and pricing.
