Heliski Russia

Heli Skiing RussiaThe 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi introduced the world to snow skiing in Russia.  But with nearly endless terrain, much of it covered in snow, and rugged mountains containing the 10th highest peak in the world, heli skiing Russia has gained popularity, becoming the next great frontier in extreme skiing.

From the vast expanse of Siberia and its legendary freezing weather...to Kamchatka's volcanic peninsula featuring peak to sea runs...to Mount Elbrus, dominating the Caucasus mountain range in Eurasia, an operator named Heliski Russia has been taking the lead since 2004 with heli skiing packages for all types of adventurers.

There are essentially three areas in Russia offering heli ski operations.  All are accessible from Moscow.

  • Lake Baikal: guaranteeing fresh powder from November to January.
  • Kamchatka: offering volcanic skiing opportunities from the top of an active volcano to the fjords below.
  • Caucasus Mountains: near Arkhyz and Mt. Elbrus glacier skiing between Arkhyz and Dombay.

The team at HeliSki Russia has been operating tours in Russia since 2004.  Marco Gaiani who serves as lead guide, together with his partner, Russian businessman Nikolay Veselovskiy, have a motto, "never stop skiing"!  And the glue holding the adventurers together is Sophie LaMotte Tellez, who is the organizational brains of the operation, planning details of your trip. And finally, the mountain guides who comprise the rest of HeliSki Russia's international family include French, Scandinavian, Swiss and Russian team members.

Heli Skiing Operations in Russia

You’ll have access to more than just world-class terrain and snow when heli skiing Russia. Due to the size of the country, each area you visit will have its own unique culture that you’ll discover along the way. Whether that means finding your place in Kamchatka’s wilderness or exploring a local culture that could only spring up somewhere as cold as Siberia, you’ll have just as much adventure off the slopes as you do on them.

Of course, weather that brings heavenly snow can also ground heliski flights, but that won’t slow you down when heli skiing Russia. From ski touring to touring volcanoes or the deepest lake in the world, there’s always an adventure to be had in Russia even when helicopters can’t fly. All the while you’ll be surrounded by unique wildlife like the Kamchatka Peninsula’s famous brown bear and marine life like whales and seals.

Although the locations are far apart from one another, there is so much terrain when heli skiing Russia that you won’t need to travel between them. If you do choose to travel between destinations or to large cities away from the mountains then you’ll have plenty of choices between flights, buses, and train lines.

Operations available for
Heli Skiing Russia

Kamchatka

  • Heli skiing Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula means skiing down volcanic slopes covered in maritime snow that were off limits to civilians until 1992. Even though heli skiing Kamchatka has been an option for decades now, the area is still mostly uninhabited, untouched, and filled with snow.

Caucasus

  • The Caucasus Mountains makes heli skiing Russia feel like you’re heli skiing the best slopes in Canada’s Rocky Mountains. In fact, Russia’s Caucasus Mountains benefit from similar conditions thanks to moisture that rises off the Black and Caspian Seas, hit the mountains, and drop heavy snow that creates reliably stable snowpacks. Not only is there heavy precipitation in the Caucasus, but this range is also home to the tallest mountain in Europe, Mt. Elbrus.

Baikal

  • The mountains surrounding Baikal Lake, rivals North America’s Great Lakes in terms of size and depth. In fact, Lake Baikal is a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its age and size. It also creates large amounts of moisture which then falls as heavy snow once it mixes with Siberia’s freezing cold air.

World-Class Travel Ideas!

Traveling through Russia can be an exciting experience, even for the most seasoned travelers. At heli-skier, we have no value-add travel contributions for this region - coming soon!
