As a provider of single-day and multi-day heliskiing adventures, this operator caters its services to all skiers. Here's a look at what to expect when you book a getaway with this well-respected company.
Facts & FAQ
Methven is located just a little over an hour from Christchurch International Airport, making it extremely accessible from multiple international locations. American Airlines offers a non-stop direct flight from the Western United States, making this operator ideal for American skiers.
It’s highly advisable to rent a car from the airport to get to Methven, although shuttle options are available. Methven Travel offers a daily shuttle service that can be utilized, but it will likely involve significant time delays based on your flight’s arrival time.
If selecting a multi-day package, Methven offers two pristine accommodation options. Both are equally as gorgeous and provide world-class amenities but have their own feel. While pricing is not included in the package, their partnership with Methven makes your stay significantly easier. Your options include:
- Lake Heron: Lake Heron Station is the home of Methven’s chief pilot. If staying at this location, you’ll be able to walk directly out of your lodging and board the helicopter for the day. With room for up to four singles or 2-3 couples, it’s a remote and quiet setting best suited for relaxation.
- Glenfalloch: With two complete houses, and one cottage, Glenfalloch can accommodate more guests. This spot also has its own direct helipad, and all meals are included in the stay.
Dubbed the “Arrowsmiths”, Methven’s terrain incorporates three separate mountain ranges in the landscape surrounding Christchurch. The Arrowsmith, Ragged, and Palmer range all collect copious amounts of precipitation from every New Zealand storm, meaning you’ll have a large amount of snowfall awaiting you.
Methven has runs available for all levels of skiers, even beginners. With over 1,000 square kilometers of terrain and 200+ named runs, you’ll have no problem finding a line that suits you. The average vertical drop is 850 meters (2,788 feet). Despite not offering cat skiing as a backup, their extensive terrain means there is rarely a no-fly day.
Methven Heliski mainly prioritizes single-day trips and rates. If you’re interested in heliskiing multiple days, however, discounted day rates are available. Methven’s standard day package includes:
- 5 heliskiing runs with additional runs available for purchase
- On-mountain picnic lunch
- All safety equipment
- Transfers to accommodations if necessary
- Squirrel helicopters provided by The Helicopter Line
- Private chartering available upon request
Methven has been around for decades, guaranteeing you that your heliskiing trip will be met with absolute professionalism and service. With their close proximity to a major international airport, clear skiing packages, and comfy accommodations, this operator can be a great choice for your trip to the southern hemisphere next summer.
