Himalaya Heliski

Himalaya HeliskiHimalaya Heliski is based near Manali, 500 kilometers north of New Dehli, in Himachal Pradesh in Northern India.  Just below Kashmir with Tibet to the east, Himalaya Heliski has been guiding skiers in the Northern Himalayas since 1990, making it the oldest heli ski operator in India.

The Kullu Valley is home to Manali and its surrounding villages and is rich in the culture of the local Pahari people who have called these high altitude valleys home for thousands of years.  One unique part of Himalaya Heliski is their Himalaya Exploration package which is geared toward non-skiers while their partner heli skis.  With a cultural interpreter at your disposal, you can visit sacred sites and local temples in the village which embraces a slower pace to life, even though access to the outside world is at its fingertips.  With cuisine influenced from Europe, India and Southeast Asia and luxury accommodations available, your heliski experience in the Himalayas will be much more than just vertical meters.

Himalaya Heliski prides itself on its private bookings. Imagine your own helicopter and your own guide to take you and 3 of your friends anywhere you want to ski in the Himalaya Mountain Range!

And of course the most magical aspect of a Himalayan heli ski experience is the famed "curry" powder  - snow that is dry and light and airy due to the high altitude.  Himalayan Heliski will definitely deliver.

Facts & FAQ

Getting There

Manali is located about 560 km north of New Dehli, where most flights into Himachal Pradesh originate from.

The closest regional airport is in Kullu, which is a little less than a 2 hour drive away.  Air India has regular flights into Kullu from New Delhi.

The closest international airport is further to the south in Chandigarh.  Transfers from Chandigarh to Manali are included with Himalaya Heliski Private Package via a combination helicopter taxi, when weather permits, and 4-wheel drive vehicles.  It is almost a 10.5 hour drive from Chandigarh to Manali.

Tenure and Terrain

From your base camp in Manali at 2000 meters above sea level, plan to ski at high altitude, where valley floors are at 2700 meters. You'll descend through massive cedar forests and long, rolling ridge lines filled with birch and oak trees.

Himalaya heliski uses two AS350 B3 helicopters which are perfect for high altitude landings and ridges as high as 4700 meters.  Weather permitting,  you will have access to the most majestic of terrain at 5000 meters high with 900-1200 meter vertical runs into wide, never-ending glaciers.

Things To Do on No-Fly Days

As with the non-skier Himalayan Exploration Package, offered by Himalayan Heliski,  a vast array of cultural experiences are available on non-ski days if the weather doesn't allow the helicopters to fly.

The hotel spa provides full use of their fitness center, pool, hot tub, sauna and yoga and massage room.  And guests, accompanied by an English speaking Cultural Guide, will walk to perfectly preserved villages with ancient temples and sacred sites.  You can meet with the locals, visit local artisans who practice the ancient craft of spinning wool and making wool textiles which are famous to this region.  You can visit the Manali bazaar for a shopping experience and taste the local Indian cuisine as well as European and Southeast Asian cuisine in the area.

Packages and Accommodations

The ultimate Himalaya Heliski experience is their Private Package.  This package puts a helicopter at your disposal for the most custom heli ski vacation on Earth.  You can start early or late, ski as many runs as possible or take a more leisurely approach.  You can also take the helicopter to the hot springs at Khirganga one day for a picnic lunch in a meadow, and then heli ski afterwards.  The Private Package is truly the most flexible and the most exclusive package available.  With 2-3 of your friends and with your own private guide, you can design your own trip.  The Private Package includes up to 6.5 days of skiing, plus 7 nights accommodations at the Manuallaya Resort and Spa just north of Manali.

The Classic Package is the most popular package offered.  It includes 6 days of skiing with up. to 30,500 vertical meters of which a minimum of 20,000 is guaranteed.  With a maximum number of 15 skiers, divided into groups of 2-3, plus a guide, Himalaya Heliski has one of the best ski guarantees available.  Guests will stay at the Manuallaya Resort and Spa where they’ll find comfortable lodging, modern design and traditional elegance.  The hotel includes a fitness center, pool, sauna and hot tub with a bar and a lounge.   And the helicopter will pick you up 100 meters away in the garden outside.
