Heli Ski Chamonix - France: Facts & FAQ
If you specifically want to heliski Chamonix there is one major roadblock.
Heli skiing is illegal in France.
Thanks to the guides at Heliski Chamonix though, you can take advantage of modern convenience while still skiing and snowboarding the Alps.
To heliski Chamonix, you’ll need to start by reaching the area. The nearest international airports are in Geneva and Lyon, and both offer connections to the heart of Chamonix via train or bus.
There are plenty of options in terms of hotels and short-term rentals in Chamonix or the neighboring Argentière. Once you’re in town you can take advantage of the local bus lines. If you have your own car, then you can also stay further outside Chamonix and then drive in for your day on the slopes.
Regardless of where you stay, when you meet your guides you’ll be meeting experienced professionals who ski the Alps in winter and climb them during the summer.
You will meet your heliskiing guides at a designated location and will then ride to whichever country you’ve selected as your destination. For example, they offer heliski trips into both Switzerland and Italy with either 1 or 2 drops into whatever terrain has the best conditions.
Single skiers or groups of less than four can reserve a slot on an already scheduled trip with either one or two flights. Groups of four can charter a helicopter and a guide to whichever destination they’d like to ride in. The guide will then show you the best lines down the slopes, but you’ll be responsible for your own backcountry gear like shovels, beacons, and probes. If you choose to take a trip into Italy, then you will also need an airbag as they are required by law.
If you’re not up to heli-skiing or conditions do not allow it, then the Chamonix guides also lead freeride tours through the nearby resorts as well as backcountry tours throughout the Haute-Savoie region!
If conditions do not allow for skiing at all, then you have world class shopping, dining, and indoor recreation options like climbing gyms all within an easy drive.
The Chamonix team’s packages do not include food or drinks while on their tour, but you can bring them along with you or once you return to France you will have one of the best après scenes in the world to choose from.
