Heliski Consultants
Heliski Consultants Ltd. is a worldwide operator and has experiences in Nepal, Greece, and Chile. Established in 2001, the company has continually expanded over the years and opened its Chilean location in 2009.
Skiing in one of the most southern regions of the settled world, this company has access to pristine, unadulterated terrain that many in the world have never known to exist. They operate out of a comfortable lodge and have a variety of activities for family members not interested in skiing. In addition, their packages provide guests with the option of group or private skiing, allowing a completely tailored experience.
Facts & FAQ
Situated in the southernmost city in the world, Heliski Consultants Ltd.’s lodge is located in Puerto Williams. This city is the last stop for those visiting Antarctica. To arrive here, you’ll need to book a flight, although direct options are not available. Most visitors will first fly into Punta Arenas international airport, where a connecting flight can be boarded to the smaller regional airport in Puerto Williams.
This flight is provided by DAP airlines, and tickets cost around $200 for a round-trip flight. Flights can be booked daily, except for on Sundays. Once you’ve landed, Heliski Consultants will handle the airport transfer.
This operator lodges its guests in the Lakutaia Lodge, right along the Beagle Channel. This prime location gives direct access to heliskiing areas within minutes. The lodge’s exterior is a little outdated, but the interior gives off a comfortable feel. Food is a priority, and you’re sure to have several gourmet options.
In addition to the standard boarding and dining amenities, the Lakutaia Lodge has a variety of extracurricular activities available. These are perfect for down days, as cat skiing is not available. Activities include:
- Hiking
- Horseback riding
- Kayaking
- Fishing
Most of the terrain you’ll have available to you is found in the Tierra del Fuego, the region that Charles Darwin traveled to formulate his theory of evolution. This operator has a variety of unique areas that skiers will be able to enjoy during their stay.
At the start of the week, you’ll be skiing runs near the lodge. After a few days, you’ll begin flying to the mountains surrounding Beagle Channel and Hoste Island. Cerro Castor in Argentina is available if there are ever down days due to weather.
Overall, the snow quality is excellent. The terrain varies from deep powder to wind-blown snow with powdery top layers. The scenery is outstanding, with many runs starting atop glaciers and ending near the ocean. If you’re planning on skiing with a larger group, you should be a confident skier to avoid slowing down everyone else. If booking a private package, ability levels can be more on the intermediate scale.
Heliski Consultants Ltd. specializes in one-week packages, providing skiers with plenty of opportunities to experience the area. The operator only flies A-Star B3 helicopters, and normally assigns two guides to each group. Package options are:
- Mixed Group (8 people): This standard package includes two groups of four who share one helicopter. A guide is assigned to each group. 12 hours of flying are included, spread across 5 days.
- Private Group (4 people): This package provides exclusive helicopter access and 8 hours spread over 5 days.
- Private Group (1-2 people): For individuals seeking an entirely private experience, exclusive helicopter use with an hour of flight time each day is provided.
