If booking a multi-day trip, lodging will be provided at the Victorian-themed Kaslo Hotel, a separate entity from Stellar Heli Skiing. The Kaslo Hotel has both standard rooms and suites, the latter of which can sleep 4-8 people comfortably. 

Rather than disappearing into an isolated backcountry lodge for a week, guests get a town-based experience with Kootenay Lake, local cafés, shops and waterfront walking paths just outside the door.

Accommodation ranges from double-queen rooms and private rooms to larger condo-style suites. Multi-day packages include double accommodation, with private rooms and condo suites available as upgrades.

After skiing, guests can soak in the outdoor hot tub or book time with Stellar's in-house massage therapist.

Food is also a significant part of the multi-day program. Stellar's culinary team emphasizes fresh, locally sourced ingredients and energy-focused meals. Breakfast, après-ski snacks, dinner and non-alcoholic beverages are included, while a full bar and wine cellar offer regional and international selections.

We like the concept. You still get the camaraderie of a heli-ski trip, but you're staying in a real mountain community rather than being completely isolated from the outside world.

Kaslo is a small town, far from the hustle and bustle of any major city. Nearly the entire village is walkable, meaning you can explore and experiment with any restaurant, bar, or shop in the town.

Stellar flies their A-Star Eurocopters exclusively in the Purcell and Selkirk Mountains. These ranges are known for their exceptional snowfall, often surpassing 60 feet in any given year. With elevations as high as 10,000 feet, and plenty tree skiing available, there’s a bountiful selection of terrain that you can choose from.

This is where Stellar starts to separate itself.

Its tenure encompasses more than 125,000 acres (505 square kilometres) across both the Selkirk and Purcell Mountains, with hundreds of established runs and new terrain continuing to be explored.

The variety is impressive. Guests can expect open alpine bowls, glaciers, steep chutes, playful gullies, well-spaced glades and long tree runs. Depending on conditions and snowpack, the longest descents can reach approximately 1,800 vertical metres—or 5,900 vertical feet—in a single run. The highest peaks within the tenure approach 2,900 metres (9,500 feet).

And then there's the Kootenay snow.

Stellar reports approximately 12 to 18 metres (39–59 feet) of annual snowfall. Moist Pacific storm systems colliding with the Selkirk and Purcell Mountains combine with colder interior temperatures to produce the light, dry powder that has made this part of British Columbia famous.

That combination also creates useful terrain options throughout the season. December and early winter can deliver deep storm cycles and memorable tree skiing. Later in the season, clearer weather and a more settled snowpack can provide opportunities to move into bigger alpine terrain.

Stellar is primarily aimed at advanced and expert skiers and snowboarders, and we think that's worth emphasizing. This isn't an operation trying to be everything to everybody. Strong skiers looking for deep powder, varied terrain and an efficient pace are squarely in Stellar's wheelhouse.

Stellar separates their tenure into seven zones, each with its own unique features and landscape. This heli skiing zoning allows a wide range of ability levels to enjoy the backcountry here, as there is truly something for everyone.

• Single Day Heli Skiing: Included is 6-7 runs (vertical guarantee of 3,000 meters), a gourmet lunch on-mountain, certified guides, and all the avalanche gear and training you need. Optionally, this package can be upgraded to unlimited vertical.
• Multi Day: This package includes unlimited vertical with a guarantee of at least 3,000 meters per day. Accommodations are provided at the Kaslo Hotel, as well as dinner at one of their restaurants. Breakfast is provided, as well as an on-mountain lunch every day.
• Powder Highway: This package is perfect for skiers after the complete British Columbia experience. Take a trip up the famous Powder Highway and combine resort skiing at Revelstoke Mountain Resort or Whitewater Ski Resort with unlimited vertical heli skiing. Since down day activities like cat skiing are not provided by Stellar, resort skiing is a great alternative for any package.
• Private: Includes all the benefits of a multi-day package with exclusive helicopter access. Private programs offer a ratio of three guests to two guides, while semi-private trips accommodate eight guests with two guides. These programs are customizable and include exclusive use of a B3 A-Star.

Every guest receives a Mammut Barryvox transceiver, avalanche airbag backpack, shovel, probe and personal radio. Powder skis and snowboards are available, although guests must bring their own ski or snowboard boots.

Stellar's guiding team consists of mountain professionals certified through organizations including the ACMG, CSGA and CAA, supported by ongoing rescue and first-aid training and helicopter satellite tracking connected to the base.
