Stellar Heli Skiing
Stellar Heli Skiing is a small group operator that flies in the Kootenay Mountain range of British Columbia. Established in 2005, husband and wife Jason Remple and Kerry Luckey began Stellar slowly. Over the course of seven years, Jason led groups on a per booking basis. In 2013, business increased substantially and Stellar became a full-time operator in the peak season with two designated choppers.
With a variety of packages that are custom tailored to your needs, Stellar provides a versatile heli skiing experience that’s difficult to find with other operators. Whether you’re coming for a day, a week, or would like to take an extended B.C. trip, this operator can easily put together a memorable experience for you.
Facts & FAQ
There’s no doubt about it, Stellar Heli Skiing is very remote and will require a bit of traveling logistics to arrive. The main base is situated in Kaslo, located about 1 hour Northeast of Nelson along Kootenay lake. There’s a variety of airport and travel options available depending on where you’re coming from. These include:
- Flying into Calgary and driving 600km to Kaslo
- Flying into Vancouver and driving 730km to Kaslo
- Catching a connecting flight to West Kootenay Regional Airport or Kelowna International Airport and driving a shorter distance to Kaslo
Flying into Spokane International Airport and taking a Kootenay Gateway shuttle to Nelson, where Stellar will then arrange a ride to Kaslo
If booking a multi-day trip, lodging will be provided at the Victorian-themed Kaslo Hotel, a separate entity from Stellar Heli Skiing. The Kaslo Hotel has both standard rooms and suites, the latter of which can sleep 4-8 people comfortably. A few amenities can be expected in this historical building, including:
- Private balconies with mountain or lake views
- Full kitchens in the suites
- Hot tub access
- In-building restaurant
Kaslo is a small town, far from the hustle and bustle of any major city. Nearly the entire village is walkable, meaning you can explore and experiment with any restaurant, bar, or shop in the town.
Stellar flies their A-Star Eurocopters exclusively in the Purcell and Selkirk Mountains. These ranges are known for their exceptional snowfall, often surpassing 60 feet in any given year. With elevations as high as 10,000 feet, and plenty tree skiing available, there’s a bountiful selection of terrain that you can choose from.
Stellar separates their tenure into seven zones, each with its own unique features and landscape. This heli skiing zoning allows a wide range of ability levels to enjoy the backcountry here, as there is truly something for everyone.
As mentioned, Stellar is the perfect operator for individuals seeking a custom timeline. In addition, Stellar Heli Skiing prices vary greatly depending on the package, making the experience affordable for anyone that’s determined enough. These packages are:
- Single Day Heli Skiing: Included is 6-7 runs (vertical guarantee of 3,000 meters), a gourmet lunch on-mountain, certified guides, and all the avalanche gear and training you need. Optionally, this package can be upgraded to unlimited vertical.
- Multi Day: This package includes unlimited vertical with a guarantee of at least 3,000 meters per day. Accommodations are provided at the Kaslo Hotel, as well as dinner at one of their restaurants. Breakfast is provided, as well as an on-mountain lunch every day.
- Powder Highway: This package is perfect for skiers after the complete British Columbia experience. Take a trip up the famous Powder Highway and combine resort skiing at Revelstoke Mountain Resort or Whitewater Ski Resort with unlimited vertical heli skiing. Since down day activities like cat skiing are not provided by Stellar, resort skiing is a great alternative for any package.
- Private: Includes all the benefits of a multi-day package with exclusive helicopter access.
