Selkirk Tangiers Heli Skiing
Selkirk Tangiers Heliskiing is a pioneer of Revelstoke heliskiing with a history that goes back over 45 years. Peter Schlunegger, a fourth-generation Swiss Mountain Guide, founded his company in 1978 and enjoyed decades of guiding. Selkirk Tangiers started humbly, offering roadside RV accommodations with their first flights. Since their origin, the operator has since been acquired by Revelstoke Mountain Resort and has significantly upgraded their lodging.
This partnership with a major North American ski resort allows guests to fully benefit from both types of skiing. The Revelstoke area is legendary for its snowfall, so what better way to experience it than from a chopper and from the chair lift?
Of the approximately 130+ world-wide operator locations cataloged on this site, we at heli-skier.com have visited "Tangiers" more frequently than anywhere else on the planet! As such, the personal commentary for this operator is more robust!
On that note, if you're considering your first booking, as I was many years ago, and your really excited to get inside that heli and GO...here's a quick clip of what you can expect:
Facts & FAQ
Unlike other vastly remote locations in British Columbia, Revelstoke is a popular destination for skiers and tourists alike. The region is primarily serviced by Kelowna International Airport. Many major airlines fly direct here but may involve a transfer from a larger airport like Vancouver or Calgary. Luckily, once you get to Kelowna, the rest is easy. Multiple Stoke Shuttles run throughout the day, providing direct access to downtown Revelstoke.
Optionally, Revelstoke does have its own small, regional airport. You’ll need to charter a private flight or helicopter to fly into this location.
You’ll be pleased to learn that when traveling for Revelstoke heli skiing Selkirk Tangiers provides exceptional accommodations. As of the 22/23 season guests were still lodged in the Coast Hillcrest Hotel, located just minutes from downtown Revelstoke. For many ski packages, helicopters take off directly from this location, so additional transportation is rarely needed. However, Selkirk Tangiers will organize transportation if your group is to fly from an additional staging area.
Owned by RMR, our Feb. '23 visit revealed the new Slopeside Hotel foundation being poured at the Resort. Selkirk Tangiers is planning to lodge its guests here in the 25/26 season - can't wait!
While staying at the Hillcrest Hotel, you’ll be able to enjoy a variety of amenities before and after heliskiing. These include:
- Indoor and outdoor hot tubs
- Sauna and steam room
- Massage Therapy
- Full fitness center and stretching studio
- Fine dining, including international food, and a breakfast buffet
- And the Mt. Begbie Brewing Co. at the bottom of the driveway!
Selkirk Tangiers Heliskiing operates in a half-million-acre tenure, providing skiers with the cream of the crop when it comes to terrain variety. With towering glaciers and dense old-growth forests, you’ll be able to push the bounds of what you previously thought possible. Runs can be as long as 2,200 vertical meters, and Selkirk Tangiers provides over 400 named descents to explore. The highlight of Revelstoke skiing, however, is the exceptional pillow lines. Enjoy dropping in on multiple feet of powder-drenched boulders as you make your way back down to the helicopter.
It’s important to come prepared to Revelstoke, as this operator requires deep powder skiing experience to book for most of its packages.
There are a variety of package options available with Selkirk Tangiers Heliskiing, ranging from single day excursions to multi-day, private adventures. This operator utilizes either a Bell 407 or A-Star helicopter for small groups, or Bell 205s for larger ones. While cat skiing is not available as a down day activity, Revelstoke Mountain Resort piste skiing is always available as backup, as well as ski touring.
Package options include:
- Daily Packages: Available in both small and larger groups, as well as single or two-day excursions, daily packages include at least four runs per day as well as breakfast and lunch. Private options are available.
- Multi-Day Packages: All multi-day packages include meals and accommodations. The classic package involves a larger group of up to 10 skiers and 2 guides, whereas the smaller group is designed for just four skiers. Private options are available.
- Pinnacle Package: As the Selkirk Tangier’s premium offering, the Pinnacle package provides a choice of luxury accommodation options and completely customizable, private heli skiing.

Selkirk Tangiers is a "well oiled" operator that provides a great product. I have a friend who'd been to Tangiers more than 17 times! And in their group safety meetings, prior to skiing, there is usually one skier getting an award for some some unfathomable amount of vertical meters skied...at least 1MM!
If a medium large operator in a resort setting is not what you're looking for, there are other operators in Revelstoke that offer remote lodging, frankly, whatever you're interested in.
"Revy" is heli central for B.C., however, the center of the heli skiing universe isn't for every skier, so take a look at our British Columbia Heliskiing Operator Directory to discover all the B.C heli skiing has to offer!
