Facts & FAQ
Northern Escape considers this destination the “most accessible heli ski lodge in British Columbia.” Compared to some of the lengthy travel itineraries needed for other operators, this claim seems to be accurate. Skiers will first fly into Vancouver International Airport and catch a connecting non-stop flight to Northwest Terrace Regional Airport.
Once here, your responsibilities are over. A complimentary shuttle will pick you and your party up straight from the airport and bring you on a 20-minute drive to your accommodations at the lodge. The ideal part of all this is that you can normally leave your home and arrive at the Northern Escape Heliskiing Yellow Cedar Lodge all in the same day, especially if coming from a major western North American city.
While the Yellow Cedar Lodge is Northern Escape’s first destination, it received substantial upgrades in 2020 that reinstated it as a leading heliskiing lodge. The building can accommodate up to 18 guests at a time, separated into single and double occupancy rooms – all of which have en suite bathrooms. A highlight of the lodge is the world-class gourmet culinary team that’s comprised of Red Seal chefs. Incorporating fresh, local ingredients from British Columbia alongside international cuisine, your appetite is bound to be satiated here.
In addition, these amenities are available to enjoy:
- Open dining room
- Full-service outdoor and downstairs bars
- Spa, sauna, and massage services
- Weight and cardio room
- High-speed internet
The Skeena Mountains host a wide variety of terrain that caters to all types of skiers. From 7,000-foot high glacial peaks to tightly spaced glades at lower elevations, the typical run consists of constant changes. The operator’s longest run surpasses 6,000 vertical feet, dwarfing all ski resorts. Snow falls in ridiculous amounts, all of which is light, fluffy, and delightful to ski in. As long as you’re a strong intermediate skier with powder experience, you’ll do just fine with this operator. With over 250 named runs and 5,500 square kilometers of terrain, you’re bound to find a line that suits you.
As their original destination, the Northern Escape Heliskiing Yellow Cedar Lodge features the classic package designed for individuals and larger groups. Despite the ability to support many skiers, you’ll never fly with more than 5 other people aboard a “Ferrari-fast” Koala helicopter. Included in the classic package is:
- 3, 4, 5, or 7-day options
- Cat skiing backup
- Snowpulse avalanche airbags
- Avalanche transceivers
- Optional unlimited vertical upgrade
