Crescent Spur Heli Skiing
Crescent Spur Heli Skiing was founded in 1992 by founders Mark and Regina, with the goal of sharing and spreading their love of the wilderness and skiing. In their 30+ years of operation, the pair have been an essential part of daily operations, with Mark himself being the Mountain Operations Manager. Today, the Crescent Spur team consists of over 20 dedicated members, who return year after year to provide guests with an unforgettable outdoor experience.
Facts & FAQ
Traveling to Crescent Spur requires a few segments, as is normally the case with most Northern heli skiing operators. First, guests fly into Vancouver International Airport. It’s highly suggested by the operator that you arrive one day early. Included in your package is one night stay at the Fairmount Vancouver Hotel Airport to facilitate this overnight time gap. This also allows you to rest and recharge before arriving at the lodge.
The morning after, you’ll take a direct flight to Prince George Airport, where you will then be privately shuttled via the operator to their lodge.
Most Crescent Spur heli skiing reviews mention that the lodge offers relaxed, casual comfort. The lodge itself is ranch-style, constructed with local timber, and provides a laid-back atmosphere that’s great for communal socialization and serenity out in nature. The lodge has 17 guest rooms, most double occupancy, but single occupancy is available upon request. In total, 20 guests can be accommodated any given week.
While staying here, you can expect a variety of classic heli skiing lodge amenities, including:
- A common lounge for socialization and après ski
- Full-service bar with wines and liquor
- Open-air hot tub and indoor sauna
- 24/7 fitness facility with cardio equipment and yoga mats
- Trivia nights and group games
Crescent Spur’s terrain expands across the Northern Cariboo and Northern Rocky mountain ranges. Within these mountains, they have access to over 1,500 square miles of terrain. You can expect typical British Columbia terrain here, highlighted by open alpine bowls and picturesque conifer glades.
Typically, skiers can expect 8-12 runs on any given day. This can depend greatly on the season. Early season has shorter daylight and less snowpack, meaning you’ll likely be contained to lower-elevation skiing where jagged terrain features aren’t as dangerous without snow. Towards the end of the season, the day is much longer, providing the opportunity for more runs up in higher-elevation alpine terrain.
Crescent Spur mainly caters to strong intermediate and more advanced skiers. They recommend you start an exercise regimen at least two months before arriving. In addition, heli boarders should be able to traverse frequently.
Crescent Spur is a proud member of HeliCat Canada, a safety organization that develops industry standards for heli skiing and cat skiing. This operator flies in a Bell 205, capable of transporting up to 10 skiers and two guides at a time. The operator does not provide cat skiing in the event of a down day. Additionally, your group size will depend upon which package you select, and vertical feet guarantees are dependent on the time of the season. Their package options are:
- Semi-Private: Perfect for individuals and small groups, these packages fly groups of up to 20 people at a time. Packages range from 3 to 7 days.
- Private: Only available early and late season, this package provides personal flight time for up to 10 skiers. Your guides will tailor the experience directly to your group’s ability level and terrain wishes.
