CMH Heli Skiing Monashees

Heli SkiingTree junkies and powder hounds will relish in the ecstasy that CMH Heli Skiing Monashees brings. This location boasts more glade runs than any other CMH location, and the surrounding mountains are world-renowned for the jaw-dropping snowfall accumulation this temperate rainforest climate produces.

Besides the one-of-its-kind tree skiing, Monashees has the most modern lodge in CMH’s tenure, providing visiting guests with a luxurious experience that’s on par with the quality of heli skiing that’s found here. The combination of these two factors is why extreme, adrenaline-seeking skiers come back every year to rejoice with their friends and explore the unknown bounty of the Monashees.

Facts & FAQ

Traveling to Monashees

Monashees sits about 3 hours North of Revelstoke Mountain Resort, making it quite a journey to get there from the nearest airport. However, this doesn’t stop anybody. Most skiers fly into Kelowna International Airport (YLW), located around 5-6 hours away from the CMH Heli Skiing Monashees lodge. Unlike other locations, this lodge isn’t remote enough to require a separate helicopter transfer, making it much more accessible than some other CMH destinations.

Once at the airport, you can either rent a car and drive yourself to Monashees or opt for CMH’s private coach transfer. This bus will pick you up on the first day your package starts and return you on the last. If arriving at the airport late at night, you may need to book accommodation. CMH recommends the Kelowna Four Points by Sheraton Hotel.

CMH Heli Skiing Monashees: Accommodations

As mentioned, the lodge at Monashees is the most modern and developed one out of all CMH’s destinations. While skiers can drive or be directly transported here, the lodge still retains an isolated backcountry feel. Beautifully situated on the banks of the Columbia River, you’ll receive inspiring views out of every window.

The lodge’s 37 rooms are outfitted to keep you comfortable throughout your entire stay. Single-occupancy rooms are available on request for solo travelers. Some of the amenities found here include:

  • Rooftop hot tub
  • Lake and river access
  • Full-service bar and wine cellar
  • Chef-prepared meals and snacks
  • Steam room, sauna, and massages
  • Exercise room

On down days, expect to spend time within the lodge. CMH does not offer optional cat-skiing, although there are various attractions nearby like the monolithic Mica Dam.

Terrain and Difficulty Levels

An insane mix of mountain climates and mild inland rainforests, the Monashees are hallmarked by the frequency of storms that visit the area. The moisture found in this “rainforest” creates storm clouds that are packed to the brim with snowy precipitation, but the cold and dry mountain air results in final snowfall that’s light, fluffy, and delightful to shred.

The terrain found at CMH Heli Skiing Monashees is best geared toward strong and expert skiers/riders. Most of the various tree runs found throughout these mountains are steeply pitched, promoting a thrilling experience that requires technical ability to conquer. The 65 feet of annual snowfall found here also requires peak physical shape and stamina to be able to handle the leg-burning descents.

CMH Heli Skiing Monashees: Packages

There are various packages available at CMH Heli Skiing Monashees, all of which are catered to more advanced skiers and small or private groups. With all packages, you’ll receive a midday lunch served mountainside, giving you the fuel you will need to keep pushing throughout the afternoon. In addition, all their packages are backed by a vertical guarantee, dependent on the number of days you intend to ski. If you don’t hit these numbers for whatever reason, CMH will refund a certain dollar amount for every 1,000 meters not skied.

Package options include:

  • Signature Trip: This standard package offered by CMH pairs you with 10 other skiing guests, all accompanied by one guide. Packages come in 4, 5, and 7-day varieties and take place aboard a Bell 212 helicopter.
  • Small Group: Available in 5 and 7-day package options, this trip is similar to the signature except that it only involves 4 other skiers. This allows for a pace that is better matched to the group’s overall ability level. A Bell 407 or A-Star B3 services these types of groups.
  • Private & Exclusive: As personalized as it gets, these 5 and 7-day trips only involve you and 3 of your close friends or family. 2 guides are assigned to your tight-knit group aboard a Bell 212 or Bell 407 helicopter.

Consult CMH directly for current packages and pricing.

Monashees is for "tree hounds" as is CMH Galena. I've heard great things about this location from skiers I've met, while at other operator locations in B.C. CMH has twelve locations in its portfolio, so don't hesitate to keep looking for the right fit.

And if CMH doesn't offer what meets your needs, be sure to visit our British Columbia Heli Skiing Operator Directory to browse them all!
