CMH Galena Heli Skiing

Heli SkiingThis is the place where hardened, expert skiers go to play. CMH Galena Heli Skiing is a professional-grade adventure that rivals the locations featured in some of the most well-known backcountry films. In fact, Travis Rice filmed his iconic Depth Perception while staying here. When you’re looking for an alpine challenge that encourages you to perform at your highest level, Galena is there for you. The combination of white-knuckle terrain and playful feature variety enables dedicated heli skiers to experience a run of a lifetime - every run!

We at heli-skier have yet to visit this location. But in our travels throughout B.C., many guides have affirmed CMG Galena to be the best tree skiing in the world. It's on our list, and it's hard to get a spot.

The jaw-dropping landscape is just one half of the journey. Galena provides a comfortable, homey lodge where you and your fellow extreme skiers can kick back and unwind after a long day. First-class meals and a plethora of additional activities make Galena equally relaxing as it is adrenalizing.

Facts & FAQ

Traveling to Galena

The CMH Galena heli skiing lodge is quite remote and requires a connecting helicopter transfer to access. Skiers first normally fly into Kelowna International Airport, located 4-5 hours away from the helipad. Most visitors choose to board the CMH coach transfer that’s provided the morning of your trip’s first day, but self-driving and privately reserved transportation are available as well.

Once at the heli-pad, a short and scenic ride is all it takes to access the lodge. On your final day of the trip, you’ll be returned here, where your coach or private transportation will take charge of getting you back to the airport. Many guests choose to visit Revelstoke Mountain Resort and spend a few additional days exploring the piste available there.

CMH Galena Heli Skiing: Accommodations

CMH Heli Skiing Galena is all about fun – on and off the mountain. As exhilarating as the runs may be, you’ll still get your entertainment fix back at the humble and cozy backcountry lodge. With 34 guest rooms, Galena can accommodate any size of group – whether you’ve been lifelong friends or just met in the heli, before shredding huge pillow lines.

Besides the standard amenities of chef-prepared meals, laundry services, and a sociable bar, Galena offers a range of exciting activities you can engage in once the day is over. Should you experience a down day due to weather, cat skiing is unfortunately not available. You can, however, enjoy:

  • Casual ping pong tournaments in the game room
  • A wood-fire sauna and steam room
  • 2km of cross-country skiing, snowshoes, and fat biking trails
  • A full-service bar

Terrain and Difficulty Levels

There’s no doubt about it – CMH Galena Heli Skiing goes heavy. Very little of the terrain at this location is geared towards first-time heliskers, instead focusing on skiers with budding talent and a raw obsession with adrenaline. When you first get dropped off by the Bell 212 helicopter, you’ll be prompted to drop in on some gnarly features. From stomach-wrenching cliff pointed out by your guides to spine-straddling traverses, you’ll come face to face with terrain you’ve likely never encountered.

Heading to a lower elevation, you’ll start bouncing down some high-energy pillows and culminate your run with a massive tenure of steep-grade glade runs. In fact, 80% of the backcountry here features trees, making it a powder-hounds paradise.

CMH Galena Heli Skiing: Packages

All packages offered at CMH Galena Heli Skiing are designed for the serious skier or rider. As such, all recommend at least a strong ability level. With every package, you’ll share the experience with multiple other guests accompanied by one or two guides. Guides always try to match the pace of the group and will ensure that everyone’s desired skiing is provided.

Package options include:

  • Signature Trip: The classic trip that comes in 4, 5, 6, or 7-day options, this package involves you skiing side by side with 10 other people, ushered along by the leadership of one certified guide.
  • Heli-Assisted Ski Touring: For you and 9 other experienced backcountry riders, this package allows you and your group to hike to higher ascents where the helicopter can’t land. This allows more complex and technical drop-ins. Only 4 and 5-day trips are available.
  • Ski Fusion: Heli-Skiing + Ski Touring: Ideal for skiers that want the best of both worlds, you’ll be able to take advantage of the freedom of terrain that comes with touring, alongside the convenience of a complete helicopter-assisted run. 2 guides are assigned to 10 skiers for these 5 and 7-day adventures.

Varying levels of vertical guarantee are provided with every package. If less skiing is available to you than what was promised, you’ll receive a refund for every 1,000 meters not skied.

Consult CMH directly for current packages and pricing.

Book a CMH Heli Ski Trip to Galena Immediately!

Out of twelve CMH Heli Skiing locations, Galena is arguably the most sought after. Many clients go every year and book the following year while they are enjoying their current trip. Because of the high demand and limited availability, their online booking calendar rarely has any "high season" openings. They have an active wait list.
