Heli SkiingAs the birthplace of heli skiing and Canadian Mountain Holiday’s (CMH) first location, Bugaboos offers a classic experience catered to all ranges of skiers. CMH Bugaboos heli skiing retains its remote, backcountry atmosphere that the location originally had, while also boasting an impressive modern lodge for its visitors.

This home ground attracts visitors from all over the world for its rich history and world-class skiing. As the most well-rounded option out of all CMH locations, Bugaboos is the ideal destination for first timers and experienced powder hounds alike. With packages pandered to every type of individual, you’re sure to find an adventure that aligns with your skiing goals and accommodation desires at Bugaboos.

Facts & FAQ

Traveling to Bugaboos

A huge allure of CMH Bugaboos heli skiing is that their lodge is entirely isolated. So much so, in fact, that you can only access it via helicopter. While this seclusion is the main draw of the location, it also results in quite the adventure to get there.

Most skiers coming to Bugaboos will first fly to Calgary International Airport (YYC). From there, they will need to find transportation to the CMH Bugaboos heli skiing pad, located 38 kilometers north of Radium Hot Springs, BC. Guests can either rent a car from the airport to drive themselves there directly or take the convenient CMH coach transfer on their arrival day. Once at the helipad, it’s just a short flight to the lodge.

Accommodations at Bugaboos

While the CMH Bugaboos heli skiing lodge may have started as a rustic logging camp, it has since transformed into one of the most picturesque, amenity-rich backcountry lodges in the entire world. Many guests choose Bugaboos simply for the sophistication it provides. The long halls are lined with the intriguing history of CMH heli skiing and the lodge features 32 guest rooms, each outfitted for two individuals. Solo travelers have the option of a single occupancy room on request.

Cat skiing is not provided for the occasional down day. However, all guests will have access to various high-end accommodations when time allows:

  • Full-service bar with panoramic views of the surrounding mountains
  • Rooftop hot tubs, saunas, and massage spas
  • Indoor rock-climbing facilities
  • Meals, pastries, and snacks provided by trained chefs

Terrain and Difficulty Levels

Bugaboos is the iconic heli skiing experience and has an expansive tenure of diverse terrain suited for all abilities of skiers. Over 617 square miles (1,598 square kilometers) are accessible, with 235 defined runs that are chosen each morning by CMH’s experienced guides. The skiing takes place exclusively in the Purcell Mountains, with nearly 7,000 feet of vertical available. Bugaboos has a healthy mixture of both alpine, glacier skiing, and glade runs.

From gentle, moderately pitched powder runs, to steep and challenging descents, Bugaboos has terrain options for every ability level of skier. Package choice determines which difficulty of routes you will take.

CMH Bugaboos Heli Skiing Packages

There are 7 distinct CMH Bugaboos Heli skiing packages, each offering a completely different set of experiences. In all their packages, CMH utilizes either a Bell 212 helicopter or an A-Star B3. Powder skis & poles or snowboards are provided, as well as the appropriate avalanche safety gear. Vertical guarantees are also included in each package, ensuring that you’ll ski just as much as you expected. Package options are:

  • Signature Trip: The classic CMH adventure, this trip can be booked as either a 5 or 7-day. You’ll be skiing with 10 other guests, accompanied by 1 guide on a variety of terrain designed for both intermediate and expert skiers.
  • Powder Intro: The perfect primer for first time alpine powder skiers, this package is like the signature except that it focuses on easier pitch and has two guides.
  • Powder Intro (Women Only): Identical to Powder Intro, except that it’s designed to create an inspiring, confidence-boosting space for all the lady skiers.
  • Powder Masters: Crafted for experienced powder skiers looking to experience a slower-paced journey.
  • Family Adventure: A heli skiing trip catered to families with children that can ski at all ability levels.
  • Heli-Assisted Ski Touring: This package will fly you most of the way up, where you’ll then use skins to reach further heights and drop in on more intricate lines.
  • Ski Fusion: Heli-Skiing + Ski Touring: Combines the benefits of complete heli-skiing runs and ones that require hiking.
