SEABA Heli Skiing
S.E.Alaska Backcountry Adventures (SEABA) is one of the most respected coastal heli skiing companies in Southeastern Alaska. Established in 2005 by Montana resident Nick Trimble, SEABA offers a world-class heli skiing experience with lots of room for lavish customization. With an expansive tenure ranging over 250 nautical miles, SEABA Heli Skiing has three port options available to its skiers. This provides a near-limitless availability of terrain that can be homed in based on incoming storm patterns.
Uniquely, SEABA offers boat-based heli skiing, an aristocratic experience reserved for groups of affluent adventure seekers. To accommodate the land dwellers, two lodging options are available, both of which provide visiting skiers with a wonderful set of amenities and comfort.
Facts & FAQ
Located in Haines, Alaska, getting to SEABA is very similar to Alaska Powder Descents. You will first fly into Juneau’s airport, connected via Anchorage or Seattle. Once you land in Juneau, you’ll need to take more unique transportation methods to access Haines.
Arriving by ferry is the most common and affordable option, but travel time is much slower. Booking a private seaplane is your fastest and most scenic option, with arrival to Haines happening in just two short hours.
SEABA offers two different lodging options for its week-long heli skiers. Both locations range from hotel rooms to larger suites. These locations are not directly owned by the operator but are included in the price of an all-inclusive Platinum package. They are:
- The Fort Steward Lodge: With eight single occupancy rooms, the Fort Steward Lodge is located just two miles away from the helipad, making it highly accessible. A full bar is located within the lodge, and the entire place can be rented by a private party, complete with an assigned professional chef.
- The Bluff House: Although 26 miles from Haines, the Bluff House is a rustic Alaskan log home that’s right near SEABA’s 33 Mile heliport. The Bluff House is reserved for private groups of up to eight people.
With both lodging options, SEABA Heli Skiing provides transportation to and from the helipad.
With terrain stretching from lower Southeast Alaska up to the Yukon border, SEABA has an immense array of skiing options. This allows them to select skiing where the weather and snow are best, rather than succumbing to inferior conditions. Southeast Alaska has a considerably higher treeline than other regions, meaning you can still get some coveted glade runs if you grow tired of open alpine skiing.
No extreme skill is required to ski with this operator, as their guides will cater the day’s excursion to the fitness and skill level of the group. If you can comfortably ski a black diamond resort run in the Western United States or Canada, heli skiing this terrain will be achievable, and enjoyable.
If you’re looking for an extended week-long heli skiing trip, you’ll find that this operator has precisely what you’re looking for. Their packages come in three varieties:
- 7-Day All Inclusive: This package only includes a spot in the helicopter for 7 days, with the necessary avalanche gear and guides. Accommodations are the skier’s responsibility.
- 7-Day Platinum All Inclusive: Included with 7 days of skiing are all meals and lodging at the two above-mentioned locations.
- 7-Day Private: Completely exclusive with 10 Hobbs hours to thoroughly enjoy the Alaskan backcountry.
If you’re seeking an elegant, high-class heli skiing experience, consider boat heli skiing. SEABA combines the amenities and experience of a cruise ship with helicopter skiing access straight from the Inner Passage. This package requires a private group and includes 10 Hobbs hours aboard an A-Star helicopter.
Should you ever experience a down day with either package option, you’ll have a range of additional activities available. While cat-skiing is not provided, overnight touring and plane skiing are available.
