Diamond Peaks Heli Ski
In today’s economic climate of hyper corporatization, it can be difficult finding a small, boutique operator that isn’t run by a third-party company. However, up in Northern Utah, there is an option. Diamond Peaks Heli Ski is a small, affordable mom-and-pop heliskiing operation. While you won’t get a ritzy lodge experience, you will get straightforward heliskiing at a very reasonable rate.
Diamond Peaks Heli Skiing has been around for years and has never deviated from its mission. They aim to provide a “more snow, less dough” experience that’s impossible to find with other operators. Here’s a breakdown of everything you can expect when you book with them.
Diamond Peaks Heli Ski: Facts & FAQ
Diamond Peaks Heli Ski Adventures is located 50 minutes north of Salt Lake City right off Highway 39. They are accessed off the backside of Powder Mountain Resort and are also just a 1 hour drive from Park City.
Once you’ve arrived in Salt Lake City International Airport, simply rent a car and find your way up North. Diamond Peaks Heli Skiing does offer air shuttles and transfers to the helipad the morning of your skiing day.
As a single day package operator, Diamond Peak doesn’t operate out of a ritzy lodge. However, this is all part of their allure. Rather than wasting multiple no-fly days sitting around an outdated heliskiing dormitory, this operator gets you out there. They’ll start every day with a wakeup call to confirm that skiing is on, bring you up for your first run by 10am, and return you by 3pm.
If you’re interested in staying in the area, there are multiple lodging options available to you. These include:
- Compass Rose Lodge: Found right in Huntsville, Compass Rose is partnered with Diamond Peak and provides close, comfortable amenities right in the heart of Ogden Valley.
- Grand America: Situated right in downtown SLC, this luxury hotel has over 700 rooms and features indoor and outdoor pools, a full-service sauna, and in-hotel restaurants.
- Hilton Garden Inn: Extremely accessible from the airport, this comfortable and high-end lodging chain gives you everything you need for an extended stay.
Diamond Peak Heli Skiing operates on over 20,000 acres of terrain in the Northern Wasatch Mountains. This range truly has it all for any type of skier. From steep glades to wide open bowls, all ability levels can be accommodated. However, an upper intermediate skill level is highly suggested. Additionally, the region receives on average 320 days of sunshine a year, making it the perfect place to score a bluebird powder day.
Diamond Peak has an exceptional guide force that’s comprised of multiple ski patrollers with decades of experience. Well trained in avalanche mitigation and experts at finding awesome lines, they’ll get you to the right terrain that matches your skiing desires and ability level.
Diamond Peaks Heli Ski keeps it simple. They offer one-day excursions with a clear timeline so that you’ll know exactly what to expect as you head up into their mountains. Your one-day package includes heliskiing between 10am - 3pm and a packed lunch, water, and snacks are provided. Diamond Peaks does not provide powder skis, so be sure to bring your own. They do offer avalanche transceivers, but it’s also recommended to bring your own safety gear.
Overall, Diamond Peaks offers a family-friendly, no-frills experience that rivals many of the built-up corporate operations. If you like supporting small businesses and want personalized attention, they are the best option for your trip, hands down.
