Svaneti Heli Skiing
How can you find untouched snow and some of the highest peaks in the world while only taking a three or four hour flight from most of Europe? The Svaneti Heliski team is how.
Svaneti Heliski is a Georgian operation that offers heliskiing adventures in the wild Caucasus Mountains. If you haven’t thought of Georgia as a heliski destination before, then it’s time to change that.Georgia is located just between Asia and Europe.
As a result, it has a rich culture that mixes influences from all over the world. While the culture is great to explore during travel days, the thing that draws more and more heliskiers to Georgia every year are the Caucasus Mountains, which include the tallest mountain in Europe.
Svaneti Heli Skiing: The Facts & FAQs
Svaneti, the region in northern Georgia where Svaneti Heliski operates, is home to four of the ten tallest mountains in the Caucasus range. On top of the fact that some of the mountains in Svaneti rise to 5,000 meters, the Svaneti Heliski team can access more than 1,500 square kilometers of terrain so you have endless options for long runs that mix in steep drops, glacial snow, and even trees.
Beyond the fantastic skiing, Svaneti is home to Mestia, a small town with all the restaurants, shops, and infrastructure you need to make the most of off days or days where the weather doesn’t allow for heliskiing. Plus, Svaneti is home to both Tetnuldi and Hatsvali-Mestia ski resort where you can enjoy uncrowded groomed slopes.
First, your adventure will begin with a flight to either Tbilisi, Batumi, or Kutaisi international airport where the guides will meet you and bring you to Mestia. The founders and guides of Svaneti Heliski are native Georgians who know the culture just as well as the mountains. They’ll introduce you to Georgian culture as you drive to Mestia, and soon after you’ll be hopping on one of their AS350 B3 helicopters in groups of four guests with a professional guide.
Svaneti Heliski offers packages of 5 and 7 days of heliskiing, but after seeing their terrain you may be tempted to book a private tour that is tailored to you and your group. Or, you can simply rent a helicopter for a tour of the mountains from the sky or even do an hourly rental with a helicopter and guide.
The 5 and 7 day packages include lodging at the Chalet Mestia, travel from the airport to Svaneti and back, three meals a day, and thorough avalanche training before you head into the mountains.
