Powder South Heli Guides - Chile
Powder South Heli Ski is known across South America for its legendary heliskiing excursions. With operations in Argentina, Chile, and even Antarctica, they are the preferred choice of dedicated skiers, including the likes of Warren Miller. Their Chile destination is the original location, founded in 2002. It was this spot that put the greater Chilean region in the extreme skiing industry’s spotlight.
With numerous lodging options all at highly rated hotels, skiing with Powder South is equally as luxurious and comfortable as it is exhilarating. Below you’ll find how to get there, what to expect with lodging and terrain, and what heliskiing packages you’ll have available to you.
Powder South Heli Guides - Chile: Facts & FAQ
Just about as accessible as it gets, booking with Powder South Heli Ski Chile only requires one flight. This is a massive difference from some of the more remote operators in other parts of the world that require an exhausting list of connecting flights and travel time. To arrive at any of their lodges, all you must do is book a flight to Santiago International Airport. Once there, a representative from the company will greet you and direct you to your connecting ground transportation or helicopter charter. It doesn’t get easier than that.
It truly does not get more sumptuous than the accommodations offered by Powder South. All four of their distinct locations offer unbelievable lodging at partnered resorts and hotels. These hotels are a far cry from the remote backcountry lodges found in North America. In fact, they’re pure decadence.
You’ll enjoy:
- World-renowned chefs and a rare wine selection from surrounding vineyards
- Soothing spa services
- Luxurious swimming pools and large jacuzzi hot tubs, accentuated by cabanas
- Contemporary architectural designs
There’s a variety of destinations to choose from. The Puma, Altiplanico, and Vik Lodge are all typical rural lodges – although extremely high-end and a representation of Chilean culture. Unique to Powder South is their Santiago Urban Deluxe accommodations. This involves staying in the high-rise Mandarin Oriental in the heart of downtown Santiago. You will literally board your helicopter straight from the roof-top and be flown directly to the mountain peaks.
If you’re coming from other skiing regions in the world, you should adjust your expectations for terrain when you come to Chile. You won’t likely be finding glades here, as almost all the skiing is done well above treeline. Instead, you can expect frighteningly steep glaciers, expansive bowls that go on for thousands of vertical feet, and an assortment of terrain features that challenge even the most adept of skiers.
As far as difficulty levels go, any confident skier is welcome. You can choose a package as long or as short as you like to reflect your endurance and ability level.
Powder South Heli Ski Chile has a wide selection of package options for all types of skiers. Whether you’re just coming for a few days or want a long experience that you’ll never forget, they can provide it for you. All packages feature small group heliskiing aboard an A-Star B3 or Bell 407, include the relevant safety equipment, and are led by UIAGM/IFMGA certified guides. Down-day activities like cat skiing are not available, but there’s plenty to do in the surrounding area if that ever occurs.
Package options include:
- 3 or 4-Day Group Skiing (8 guests)
- Semi-Private and Private Week Skiing (8 or 4 guests)
- Ultra-Private Week Skiing (3 guests)
Few heliskiing operators rival the decadence that Powder South Heli Ski offers. If you value luxurious amenities and novel skiing experiences, book your trip with this esteemed operator.
