Yukon Heliski
Smack dab between two of the most premier heli skiing locations in the world, Yukon Heliski is a boutique operator that offers incomparable terrain, unique accommodations, and a community feel that is simply impossible to find elsewhere!
Every year, a temporary "tiny home" village is constructed on the boarder of BC and Alaska...in the deep North of B.C. in the Yukon. The accommodations provide guests with a cozy and quaint home away from home.
Despite the relaxing ambiance and very unique lodging that’s perhaps this operators asterisk, they have jaw-dropping tenure, which is available for skiers of all ability levels, making this operator one of the most welcoming in Canada.
Facts & FAQ
Considering the remoteness that’s often associated with the great Yukon territories, one would think that arriving at this operator’s helipad would be a chore. Quite the opposite. Traveling to this destination is just as streamlined as any other B.C. or Alaskan operator. Most skiers will first fly into one of British Columbia’s main airports – Vancouver, Calgary, or Edmonton.
Once touched down, you’ll then board a connecting flight that takes you directly to Whitehorse, YT. This operator recommends booking with Air North, a First Nations-owned airline. Direct flights from the three main cities take around 2 hours and cost between $300 and $400 per person. After arriving in Whitehorse, you’ll be whisked away to the tiny home heliskiing village that awaits you.
Unlike the expansive hotel and chalet accommodations offered by so many operators, Yukon Heli keeps it simple. They have taken a unique and rustic approach to their lodging, offering private tiny home accommodations that are outfitted with comfortable, minimalist amenities.
Each year, at the beginning of the season, Yukon Heliski constructs a temporary village, complete with a trailer-mounted saloon and sauna. These mobile units are towed in and winched into position. This impressive effort creates an experience that’s unlike other operators. While staying in this homey village, you’ll have a range of amenities available, including:
- “Tiny-home” style cabins featuring a wood fireplace, small kitchenette, comfortable bedding, and a fully functional shower place.
- Communal saloon featuring a full kitchen, dining area, and hang-out spot where all meals are shared with other guests.
- Wood-fired sauna on wheels for post-ski session relaxation and recovery.
Yukon Heli uniquely borders both British Columbia and Alaska, providing skiers with the best of both worlds when it comes to terrain. You’ll experience the classic Alaskan high-alpine spines, while also enjoying the long, meandering powder-soaked bowls that hallmark interior B.C. The consistently low temperatures keep fresh powder cold and light for days on end, meaning you’ll never have to worry about crustiness and ice.
This diversity in terrain allows Yukon Heli to cater its operations to both intermediate and expert-level skiers, whether they have backcountry experience or not.
Yukon Heliski is now focussing on Private packages only. They appear to accommodate both individuals and groups as well.
